Paper marbling is a
centuries old tradition although the techniques were always kept secret
to foil the competition. Beautiful papers similar to those pictured here
have been made in Turkey, India and Persia since the 15th century.
It was only in the 19th
century that a book was produced in England which shared the secrets and
allowed marbling to be practiced by more artists and consequently
appreciated by a larger audience.
In the 1970s there was a
renewed interest in paper marbling and, although there are few full-time
marblers in the U.S., interest is still growing.
Galen Berry's high quality
papers tend to feature the historic and beautiful patterns of long ago
and he uses
Texoprint Paper exclusively.
