Thank you for patronizing a small business

Here comes Fall!

If you are a beginning or intermediate artist who would like to learn or update your torch soldering skills, this exciting class is for you.

  • Fabricating metal
  • Bezels
  • Beads: lentils and others
  • Reticulating
  • Rings and other jewelry
  • Several ways to solder with a torch
    Air/acetylene
    Oxy/Propane

We'll also discuss such topics as which flux to use when, cool bench tools and tricks, how to set up and get comfortable with a torch, metal properties and how to exploit them, soldering surfaces, metallurgy for the common artist, etc. The strength of this is that a class can be really wide ranging. Come to my studio, play with my toys, meet like-minded students and expect anything!

These lovely lentil beads were made by one class in April of 2008

Notes:

  • Everything for all projects is supplied by the instructor, but working with sterling silver or similar upgrades will be extra (your choice).

  • * The most successful students are those who have fabricated metal before. No knowledge will be assumed. Are you a beginner who is good with your hands and a fast learner? Give me a call and we'll talk about whether this class is for you. A certain amount of hand-strength is required in any metal fabricating you do .

  • Completely unique and unavailable anywhere but at the Volcano Arts Studio.

What to Bring (optional):

  • Journal or pad for notes

  • Magnification (I have a few OptiVISOR to loan out and we also sell them here)

  • If you have a respirator mask bring it along (like painters use, available at hardware stores - filters should be for aerosol particulates). Although a respirator mask is highly recommended, don't feel that you need to buy one just for this class. I have lots of paper masks that you can use for the week.

  • I have plenty of medium and large latex gloves. If you are allergic to latex or have extra large or extra small hands, please bring several pairs to use during the week.
