If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.

About Our Kits

We are very proud of our book kits. We use the finest materials possible and are always on the lookout for new ideas. Each of our kits is a Volcano Arts exclusive. If our name is on it, you'll know that it was handmade right here in the Volcano Arts Studio.

  • Our leather is number 1 quality.

  • We use nothing but Davey Board, the industry standard. It's 100% recycled and acid-free (neutral pH). We do not use mat board.

  • The thread in our kits is always Irish linen - strong and durable.

  • Unless otherwise specified, we use 70 lb. text weight paper. It's heavy enough that you can write on both sides without worrying about bleed-through.

  • The watercolor paper we use is nothing but Arches.

  • Each kit has a 'difficulty rating' that will help you determine if you have the skills for a particular project.

  • Unless specifically stated, our kits make full size books, not miniatures.

In Your Words
I love your web site! I think I found it a couple of weeks ago by doing a search on the web. (I was inspired to learn how to make a Coptic bound journal after seeing them at a local street fair, so I searched the internet for directions and help since I had nobody to ask. My first one took about 8 hours, and I'm hooked.) Your site has lots of great pictures and a very helpful punching cradle I'm looking forward to using. You also offer lots of pictures, ideas, and variety - 3 sizes of awls and 2 burnishers -which I really appreciate. Thank you! I don't buy much over the internet, but I knew right away that I'd purchase from you. Somebody did a very good job of designing your site. I may join one of your swaps some day. :-D -- Anne F. 5/10/04
